Grinding of titanium alloy
Titanium alloys are classified into α-titanium alloys (named ta1~ta8), beta titanium alloys (brands tb1, tb2), and α+β titanium alloys (brands tc1~tc10).
1) Grinding characteristics
a. High chemical activity, causing severe diffusion and wear on the surface of the abrasive
b. The thermal conductivity is small, and the surface of the workpiece is prone to burns, cracks, deformation, etc.
c. Low modulus, high grinding force and high grinding temperature

Because titanium alloys have a series of excellent physical and mechanical properties, they have been widely used in aerospace, aviation, petroleum and shipbuilding industries. However, titanium alloy is a very poorly groundable material. When machining with ordinary abrasives, the grinding ratio is very low, and only effective measures can be taken to ensure good grinding results.

2) Selection of grinding wheel
a. Abrasive: The more suitable abrasives are green silicon carbide (gc) and silicon germanium (cc). Grinding wheels made of these two kinds of abrasives have less adhesion when grinding titanium alloys, and the grinding wheels are not easy to block. It is better to grind titanium alloy with a mixed abrasive wheel made of green silicon carbide and other corundum. Synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride grind titanium alloys with high efficiency but at a higher price.
b. Particle size: f46, f36 should be used for coarse grinding, and f46 and f60 should be used for fine grinding.
d. Hardness: The hardness of the grinding wheel has a great influence on the grinding effect, and is usually taken as k.
e. Bonding agent: ceramic (v) is used. This binder has good chemical stability and is advantageous for maintaining the shape of the abrasive.
f. Organization: Medium-loose loose grinding wheels can be used with organization numbers 6-8.
g. Grinding fluid: use potassium nitrite solution, potassium nitrite and sodium benzoate solution, sodium nitrite solution, sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate solution, nitrite solution or high chlorinated oil.
